Career, Technical and Agricultural Education
Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) is preparing Georgia's students with the skills and education needed for the next step after high school whether it be college, beginning a career, or serving in the military. CTAE students across the state are offered more than 130 Career Pathways within 17 Career Clusters. So which pathways are offered at Mitchell County High School? The Career Pathways offered at Mitchell County High School are:

Agricultural Mechanics Systems- The Ag Mechanics pathway offers students hands on experience with wood working, agricultural structures, electrical wiring, and power equipment operation and maintenance. In this pathway students have the opportunity to work hands on in the Ag workshop with a Plasma Cutter to produce metal signs for local businesses and for personal customer purchase. In this pathway students may participate in the FFA Student Organization.

Audio Video Technology & Film- In this pathway students gain knowledge and experience with basic audio/video equipment, script writing, production, programming, recording, editing, and operational set-up and equipment maintenance. Students in this pathway gain hands on experience by broadcasting Mitchell County Schools/Community events as well as airing weekly programs for the WMCZ LP 94.5 FM Eagle News Radio.

Culinary Arts- The Culinary Arts pathway introduces students to food preparation terms, concepts, and methods in the food service industry with an emphasis on basic kitchen and dining room safety, sanitation, equipment maintenance and operation procedures. Students in this pathway gain hands on experience by assisting the Culinary Arts instructor with local and school catering events, preparation of weekly casseroles which are sold to community members, all while serving and preparing menus for the MCHS Eagle’s Nest Café.

Graphic Design- The Graphic Design pathway provides students with opportunities to gain hands on experience in producing t-shirts, banners, yard signs, buttons, programs, posters, business cards, etc.  In addition to the hands on experience, students will gain knowledge about Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator and Microsoft Publisher while creating the graphic designs for production.

Horticulture Mechanical Systems- In this pathway students are introduced to the major concepts of plant and horticulture science. The students will gain basic understanding of plant reproduction, soil management, plant growth, and fertilizing and irrigation methods. Students in this pathway will have the opportunity to gain hands on experience by managing the plant production in the Hydroponics garden and floral greenhouse. In this pathway students may participate in the FFA Student Organization.

Plumbing - In this pathway students will be introduced to the major concepts of installing and repairing plumbing systems. Students will be involved in heavy hands on experience in the plumbing field, getting opportunities in real world applications. Students will be working towards a Journeyman's License through the three year program, with an opportunity to gain the license upon graduation and successful completion of the Journeyman Plumber Exam.

Mechatronics - The Mechatronics pathway has been developed to provide students with a strong foundation in the skills needed by the advanced manufacturing industry. Mechatronics skill sets provide students with opportunities to pursue rewarding and high-demand careers within the workplace. Mechatronics is a diverse field. It encompasses many interrelated disciplines including: Electronics, Mechanics, Fluid Power, Electrical Control Systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Computers, and Robotics.

Mitchell County CTAE is also very proud of its new distinction of being a dual enrollment program, where each of our CTAE courses provide our students the opportunity to earn college credits through our partnership with Albany Technical College. Students must complete three courses in a career-related pathway and be eligible to participate in Georgia Department of Education recognized end-of-pathway assessment activities. Successfully passing the end-of-pathway assessment may result in an industry-recognized credential that may be used for future employment.   For more information about the Career Pathways or CTAE opportunities offered at Mitchell County High School, please contact Mr. Simon Wilkes, CTAE Director, at 229-583-3403..
