About Us

Mitchell County has 514 square miles of beautiful countryside and quiet towns. With only 47 persons per square mile, there remains a country air about Mitchell County. Our county is within 30 miles of the cities of Thomasville, Albany, and Bainbridge, Georgia. It is located conveniently close to North Florida, South Alabama, and two state capitals, Tallahassee and Atlanta. With various means of transportation available, business traveler and tourist alike can easily access Camilla.

An abundance of water, fertile lands, and an extended growing season make Mitchell County a prime location for farming and agri-business. Local farmers produce a variety of crops including cotton, peanuts, pecans, sweet corn, soybeans, vegetables, pine trees, livestock, and broilers. Most of these crops are further processed in Camilla, thereby adding employment and profit to the county.

Camilla enjoys a strong economy that is bolstered by the continuing addition of new businesses. From industry and agri-business to service and retail enterprise, Camilla and Mitchell County boast a pro-business environment. Local government works closely with the business community to stimulate the economy.

Mitchell County High School is a small school with a vision toward the future. In 2016-2017 school year, the 8th grade was moved to the high school, thus MCHS has grades 8-12 along with 3 Pre-K classes. In July 2022, MCHS was reconfigured to represent a traditional high school model severing grades 9-12. MCHS continues to provide opportunities to excel academically, with a large campus and course offering that allow for breath and depth of student. From advance classes to early college, students can go as far and as fast as they want. Additionally, in the Spring 2022 the Mitchell County School System established the SOWEGA College and Career Academy on the campus of Mitchell County High School offering intensive career pathways including Agriculture, Business/Graphics/Video Design, Culinary Arts, Plumbing, Mechatronics, Criminal Justice, and JROTC that provide real world experience and in some cases job licensure.

The faculty and staff are truly committed to providing the students a first class academic education along with practical application giving our students the needed tools to not just cope, but excel in today’s challenging environment. MCHS, faculty and staff are committed to this vision for our students and community.

In summer 2016, North Mitchell County Elementary School was renamed to Mitchell County Elementary School.
